The Gachatha Factory, run by the Gachatha Farmers Cooperative Society since 1963, has been a key player in producing high-quality Kenyan coffee. Located on 391 acres in Nyeri, it supports around 1,050 members, with 900 actively delivering cherries during harvest. Farmers typically cultivate about 300 trees on small plots, often alongside other crops that enhance regional biodiversity. The factory prioritizes sustainability, managing wastewater through soak pits and preserving local flora and fauna. Gachatha’s meticulous Washed processing selecting only ripe cherries and carefully pulping, fermenting, and drying yields a crisp, vibrant, and complex cup.
